Mentor and Mentored
W.D. Ehrhart with Joseph Wade and Lovella Calica
W. D. Ehrhart is the author or editor of 20 books of poetry and nonfiction prose and a teacher of history and English at the Haverford School in suburban Philadelphia. He is also a Marine Corps veteran of both the Vietnam War and Vietnam Veterans Against the War. In June 2012, he joined the faculty of the 25th annual Summer Writers Workshop sponsored by the William Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequences at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Two members of his memoir workshop were Lovella Calica, director of the Philadelphia-based Warrior Writers, a creative community of and for veterans, especially younger vets from the Iraq & Afghan Wars era, and Joe Wade, a navy veteran of the Global War on Terror whose first collection of poems, Of Life Infallible, literally arrived fresh off the press in the middle of the two-week workshop.
