Gina Ferrera & the Philadelphia Gyil Fusion Project
Gina Ferrera’s music is like a luminous burst of energy radiated by the fusion of layers of Philadelphia talent, passion, collective spirit, creativity, folkloric inspiration and urban charisma. The music is a sound journey; a free play interlaced with traditional melodies, polyrhythm and layers of overtones and buzzing sounds. Gina Ferrera, Shawn Hennessey, Gabe Globus-Hoenich and other special guests are “astral pirates of sound”, featuring native African instruments like the gyil (a traditional West African xylophone), global percussion instruments, guitar, effects, drumset and vocals. These players voyage unexplored sonic lands; “Terra Incognita”.
Hypercube
Hypercube is an original modern jazz project that features some of the most exciting young musicians in Philadelphia. Trumpeter Chris Aschman and saxophonist Mike Cemprola form the front line of this quintet, playing intricate melodic lines through colorful and textured musical frameworks. Drummer Matt Scarano adds a strong rhythmic foundation with a style that is sensitive yet emphatic, which is bolstered by the steadfast lines of upright bassist Ryan Kuhns. Between these sonic layers, guitarist Tim Wendel interlaces rich harmonies. Performing all original compositions, they have an unmistakable sound and chemistry.
